Pharma industry giants unite in support of Made in India vaccines – a strong blow to rumours
Competition in India’s pharma industry is always at its peak, but recently there was an instance when big pharma promoters, who are usually considered rivals, stood together. This was the occasion – to support vaccines manufactured in the country.
On Thursday, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Chairman Satish Reddy, Sun Pharma promoter and CMD Dilip Sanghvi, Zydus Lifesciences Chairman Pankaj Patel, Torrent Pharma Chairman Sameer Mehta and Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw – all unanimously praised the life-saving vaccines like Covid-19 and polio manufactured in India and questioned the myths being spread against them.
This support came at a time when there was speculation that some sudden deaths in Karnataka were linked to the Covid-19 vaccine. It was being said that the increase in the incidence of heart attacks could be related to the vaccine. In this context, many media reports and rumours started spreading on social media. In such a situation, these giants coming together to draw the country’s attention towards scientific facts proved to be a positive and necessary initiative.
When competition is behind, and public health is ahead
Dr. Reddy posted on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:
“Vaccines have played an important role in polio eradication and fighting Covid. India is today being seen as a global vaccine leader. In such a situation, we should trust science, not doubt it. It is important to keep public health above politics.” This statement clearly shows that this is not just a matter of business, but of social responsibility.
Posts on the same day – not a coincidence, it is a message
Interestingly, the social media posts of all the big pharma promoters came out on the same day. This cannot be called a mere coincidence. This appears to be a collective effort under a clear strategy to bring the public out of the state of confusion.
Pankaj Patel’s accurate scientific explanation
Zydus’ Pankaj Patel wrote in his post:
“Many factors such as age, genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle can be responsible for heart attack.”
“The risk of heart disease and myocarditis increases after Covid infection, this has been proved by scientific studies around the world.”
“Vaccination is still the most effective strategy to prevent death and serious illness.”
His words clearly made it clear that vaccine is not the problem, but the solution.
Dilip Sanghvi suggested a logical way
Sun Pharma chief Dilip Sanghvi also said in a post that:
“If millions of people have been given the vaccine and it was harmful, then the incidents would have happened on the same pattern across the country – which did not happen.” “State governments should conduct in-depth investigations into these incidents to find out the real causes.”
This suggestion is based on scientific prudence, which neither blames the vaccine nor ignores it completely.
Warning to be cautious of baseless propaganda
Reacting to the issue, Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, said:
“Misinformation and distortion of facts not only endangers public health, but also undermines the faith of the general public in science and patient care.”
He was clearly indicating that questioning health policies based on the immediate uproar on social media can be extremely dangerous.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw also took the lead Pharma industry
Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw also wrote on X and criticized Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s comment that hasty vaccination was leading to deaths.
“COVID-19 vaccines in India were approved only after undergoing all rigorous scientific trials and regulatory processes.”
“Such non-scientific comments not only harm India’s scientific reputation but also create unnecessary fear about vaccines among people.”
India – The Global Vaccine Hub Pharma industry
India today accounts for 60% of global vaccine production. During the COVID pandemic, India not only protected its own citizens but also sent vaccines to many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America under the ‘Vaccine Maitri’ initiative. Covishield (developed by AstraZeneca) manufactured by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India has been one of the most widely used vaccines in the world.
Scientific institutions also support Pharma industry
Studies conducted by premier institutions such as the Ministry of Health, ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) and AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) have made it clear that:
“There is no direct link between COVID-19 vaccination and sudden deaths in adults.”
This scientific finding is the most solid weapon against rumors.
Conclusion : Trust science, distance from confusion
It was a historic moment when India’s big pharma promoters, who usually play their competing roles, stood united in support of public health and scientific thinking. Their words not only have confidence but also a strong message —
“Understand the data, stay away from rumors.”
When the country has strong pillars like scientific research, global acceptance and own production capacity, we should have full faith in our scientists and doctors. Look at science with gratitude, not with suspicion.
