Seismic activities in North India, including the Himalayas, are caused by the collision between the Indian tectonic plate and the Eurasian plate.

DDMA said that “these colliding plates become flexible while storing energy like a spring and the edges of the plates finally slide to release the energy, which gives us earthquakes.

The report is of 10th July 2025, in which a massive earthquake occurred centered on Jhajjar in Haryana. It came at around 9:04. Its main impact was felt more in three cities: number one, Ghaziabad, number 2, Noida, and number 3, Gurugram. According to the Institute of Seismology, the depth of this earthquake was close to 10 kilometers, which leaves a deep impact. Its major impact was also seen in Delhi. According to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi falls in seismic zone IV, which indicates the possibility of more earthquakes in this area.

The effect of this earthquake was felt in Gurugram, Rohtak, Dadri, and Bahadurgarh of Haryana. Jhajjar was the epicentre of the earthquake, and its effect was felt up to Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh, about 20 km away.

On Thursday, July 10, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said the earthquake had a depth of 10 km and was recorded at 9:04 am.

Since 17-20, about 5 earthquakes of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale have been recorded in Indian cities.

Due to the geographical location of Delhi, it is not unusual for an earthquake to occur here.

There are four seismic zones in India where the risk of an ,earthquake is high

1 Delhi Haridwar Ridge

2 Sohna Fault

3 Delhi Moradabad Fault

4 Mahendragarh Dehradun Fault.

Regarding this earthquake of 10 July 2025, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has issued an advisory on social media that do not panic, remain patient and drivers should stop their vehicles in an open place.

A resident of Gurugram in Haryana told news agency ANI, “We were sitting here and drinking tea when suddenly I felt a strong earthquake. I asked everyone to get out of the building. Everyone ran out…”

Another suggested: “The capital of India should be shifted from New Delhi.
