Operation Sindhu

What is Operation Sindhu?

Operation Sindhu is a special evacuation operation launched by the Government of India on June 18, 2025, aimed at bringing back Indian citizens, especially students, stranded in Iran due to the Israel-Iran war. This mission symbolizes India’s commitment to ensure the safety of its citizens at all costs, no matter how complex the circumstances.

India again showed resolve – Citizens first

A statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that Indian citizens living in Israel will be transported to the safe border by land route and then brought to India by air. This entire operation is being monitored by the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Purpose of Operation Sindhu

The sole purpose of launching this mission was to save the Indians trapped in Iran from the horrors of war. The increasing tension between Israel and Iran, missile attacks and drone attacks had put the lives of the people present there in danger. Through this mission, India took the initiative to evacuate its citizens safely.

Main objectives of the mission
1. Saving the lives of citizens : Taking Indians to safe places amid missile and drone attacks in Iran was the first priority.
2. Providing fast and safe routes : India, along with neighboring countries like Armenia and Turkmenistan, created smooth routes for evacuation.
3. Demonstration of global responsibility : Like previous missions like Operation Ganga, Kaveri and Ajay, this operation also reflects India’s policy in which no Indian is left alone in crisis.

Statement by Ministry of External Affairs
