IGNOU has launch a new degree certificate course – “Childhood Special Education”

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in collaboration with Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has taken a unique and inspiring step. They have launched a special certificate programme in Early Childhood Special Education for children with intellectual disabilities, aimed at making these children a part of the society and giving them an opportunity to reach their full potential. This programme is not just a course but an effort that works towards building an inclusive world by engaging children, their families, schools and communities.

IGNOU
Aim of this programme

The core objective of this initiative is to empower every child who faces challenges in learning or understanding due to intellectual disability. It focuses on early childhood, as this is the time when a child’s mind and personality develop the most. IGNOU and RCI believe that with the right guidance and support, these children can be helped not only to learn but also to become self-reliant and make their place in the society. This programme promises to understand the unique needs of every child and take them forward through love, care and education.

How Long Is It and Who Can Join?

Duration: The program takes 1 year to 3 year finished.
Who Can Enroll: You need to have completed 10+2 (that’s 12th grade or Intermediate in India). Anyone with that level of education or higher can sign up.
Cost: It’s Rs. 7,800, which is the fee you pay to join.

Note : This program is only for people in India, not international students.

Who can be a part of this change?

This course is open to anyone who wants to make a positive difference in the lives of these children. Whether you are a teacher who wants to teach these children in school, or a parent who wants to better understand their child’s needs, or a caregiver or professional who wants to work in this field—this program is for you. The best part is that it is available through distance learning, which means you can complete it from anywhere in the country, at your own pace.

 What will be taught?

This course goes beyond bookish knowledge. It will give you a deep understanding of intellectual disability, the nuances of early development of children, and practical techniques for teaching and learning. You will learn that each child has different needs, and how to create individual plans to help them.

The course includes:

Understanding Disability : What is intellectual disability, and how it affects children.

Foundations of Early Education : Understanding the teaching methods and needs of young children.
Special Interventions : Teaching methods specifically designed for these children.
Project Work : Designing and implementing plans to help families and children in real life.

All this is divided into 5 courses of 40 credits, which is a perfect blend of theory and practice. You will not only study, but also gain experience by working with real children and families.

Why is it special?

The partnership of IGNOU and RCI makes this program credible and of high quality. This course does not just give a degree or certificate, but gives you a chance to become a support for children who are often ignored in society. It teaches you how small steps, like teaching a child to read, play, or make friends, can make a big difference in their life.

 What will be its impact?

Those who complete this course will become a strong support for children who are facing intellectual disability in schools, homes and communities. They will not only teach children, but also teach them to gain confidence, make friends, and be a part of society. This program is a step towards creating a world where every child, no matter what their challenges, grows up with respect and opportunity.
