UPSC launches new online application portal – know full details
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has launched a new online application system keeping in mind the convenience of the candidates, which has come into full effect from 28 May 2025. Through this new process, it will now be easier and smoother to apply for all UPSC examinations than ever before.
This new online portal is specially divided into four major parts, which will appear as separate cards on the homepage:
1. Account Creation
Candidates can first create their account by going to this section. This account will serve as a unique profile for all examinations.
2. Universal Registration
This section is for filling general information for all candidates, such as personal details, contact information, identity card etc. Once filled, these details will be automatically added to every exam.
3. Common Application Form
In this section, details like educational qualification, experience, category certificate are filled, which are necessary for every exam. These can be updated at any time.
4. Examination Section
All information related to exam notification, application form and application status will be given in this section. In this section, candidates will be able to fill the information only within the stipulated time limit, when a new notification will be published.
What is new in this portal?
The old system of “One Time Registration” (OTR) has now been completely abolished.
Candidates will have to create a new account by visiting the portal https://upsconline.nic.in.
All the necessary documents like – photo, signature, certificate etc. will have to be uploaded afresh on this portal.
Instructions and help for users
UPSC has ensured that using this new portal is comfortable for every candidate.
Detailed instructions have been given with every section and form.
It is advisable to use Aadhar card as an identity card, so that the process of registration and verification can be simple and quick.

Combined Defense Services Examination (CDS) – Part II, 2025
National Defense Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) Examination – Part II, 2025
The notification for both these exams has been issued on 28 May 2025 and applications for these will now be accepted only under the new system.
This new application portal launched by UPSC is a revolutionary change for the candidates. It not only makes the application process transparent and time-saving but will also relieve last minute rush and technical issues.
All candidates are advised to visit the portal as soon as possible and register and update their profiles, so that they can apply on time for the upcoming exams.
